Kenwood KIVBT900
Kenwood KIVBT900 are specifically designed to allow you to enjoy music and video files stored on an iPhone/iPod. The intuitive design of this receiver mimics the interface of an iPod with the added benefit of enhanced sound quality. The improved Search Functions enable easier searching of songs or titles so even if there are thousands of titles stored on your iPod, they can be quickly retrieved.
Three 4.0 volt preamp outputs with built-in digital sound processing make the KIV-BT900 a true audio performer. And an on-board 512MB flash memory module will rip external content through the USB input, supporting a wide range of audio (MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV), video (MPEG4, WMV and H.264) and picture (JPEG and BMP) files. The variable key illumination feature gives the KIV-BT900 the ability to match the interior lighting of almost any automobile. A remote control is provided at no additional charge.
As part of an ambitious new lineup unveiled at the CES 2010, the latest Kenwood flagship head unit uses 3D images to help you go forward and advanced backup camera technology for when you're going backward. And the company has enlarged the growing territory occupied by disc-less head units.
The KIVBT900 is Kenwoods first in-dash iPod controller receiver designed specifically for users of the Apple iPod, iPod Video, iPod Touch, iPhone and Microsofts Zune. Because of the unique and specialized application of the KIV-BT900 receiver, the CD transport has been eliminated. The intended user is a dedicated portable media enthusiast and travels exclusively with digital music and video files instead of conventional CDs and DVDs.

The Kenwood KIVBT900 takes this unique product concept to new heights. Beginning with a 3 full-color, multi-lingual TFT display, the KIV-BT900 shows full song, artist and album text plus large-format, full-color album art. iPod video files not only appear on the display, but an A/V output allows the content to appear on external rear-seat monitors. The KIV-BT900 also features a new, built-in Bluetooth circuit by industry-leader Parrot that provides the latest in hands-free performance and phone compatibility.
Expandability options are not limited when it comes to the Kenwood KIV-BT900. Sirius and XM Satellite radio has two packages if you are interested in those services. Equipped with a front panel USB input, you have direct connectivity to your iPod or iPhone while providing a charge, full controls, and playback of your iPod/iPhone through the receiver. HD Radio and full compatibility with your steering wheel controls are some more options that make this Kenwood Player a great purchase.
The 3-inch color display shows all the iPod display info, including album art and iPod video (not while moving), and video can also be directed to external rear-seat monitors. A 512-MB flash memory lets you rip files through the USB port, and the units support all the common audio and video file formats.
The Kenwood KIV-BT900 is a higher-end, single-DIN car A/V receiver. The KIV-BT900 lacks a CD drive, targeting the large segment of consumers whose digital media practices no longer include compact discs. It features a 3" color LCD display and plays both audio and video from an iPod or iPhone connected via USB. Unlike the KIV-700, the BT900 features built-in Bluetooth, enabling hands-free calling. It is a good choice for cars with a backseat monitor, equipped with a dedicated video output. It is also notable for the ability to rip media from a USB-connected device, with 512 MB of internal storage space. A radio tuner with RBDS FM tagging – which displays artist and song information in real-time – is also standard.

Customer Review
Overall this unit has some great features but IMO Kenwood needs to update the firmware to make it faster when going from song to song or menu navigation with an iPod or loading the bluetooth/phonebook. Other than lagging at times it works great. I do wonder though if the Excelon KDC-X994 (which I was also considering) has the same functionality or if it is faster in operation - ashame I couldn't have tested both side by side before purchasing - my guess is the 'guts' of these units is pretty much the same just the display and of course a CD player is still there with the KDC-X994.
Overall the KIV-BT900 is a still a very nice unit and has some cool features. I still haven't found a way to mute the volume and the face is fixed so it can be a theif magnet depending where you live/are but other than that it is hard to fault the features and sound quality of this unit - and the display is very nice. I wouldn't watch a video to long on it but for displaying other things it's superb IMO. I don't know why there are no real (professional or user)reviews of this unit but I suspect once it sells more that there will be more info/opinions coming up.
